Calendula also known as Marigold is known for its bright "sunny" flowers and hardy nature. Its name comes from its tendency to bear flowers once a month, usually around the New Moon. Historically it has been used in many cultures for healing, offerings to deity, ritual wear, lightening hair and dye for clothes. It is edible and has been used in salads and as cake decorations. As a healing herb Calendula Oil is antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic and is often added to formulas to help with a wide range of skin conditions. Calendula has also been used to heal wounds, stop bleeding, ease cramping, relieve constipation, help with tumors, relieve pain, soothe inflamation, rejuvenate the skin and reverse wrinkles. It has been used to bring luck to money matters and to aid in games of chance. In gardens, it protects other plants from fungus and insects, thus it can be used magickally to provide general protection for ourselves. Calendula is useful in spells of love and brings constancy and health to a relationship. Carrying the herb into court increases your chances to win your case. It was believed the smell of the flowers would bring dreams of winning numbers and winning names. To make a Dream Sachet mix Calendula with Lavender, Mugwort and Amethyst to promote prophetic dreams.
